Dear RMEI members,

We kindly invite you to participate to an online upated survey, in the framework of the Horizon2020 research programme TARGET of the Mediterranean Network of Engineering Schools and Faculties (RMEI).

https://www.facebook.com/RMEIng/

TARGET project concers the development of activities and RMEI strategies towards  "TAking a Reflexive approach to Gender Equality for institutional Transformation".

http://www.rmei.info/index.php/fr/programme/h2020-target

Please, take some minutes to reply to the survey. Your reply is very important for the development of the Gender Equity Strategy in your RMEI network.

You can have an idea about the survey here :

Mara LOMBARDI - President of RMEI

Scientists dream great things. Engineers realize them.

The hope is that our young students may reinforce the dream of the Mediterranean basin as a shared forum for all and a peaceful place where our common culture can flourish.

So we want to shape a future where our students do not have to get on a boat to escape from poverty and find a future elsewhere, but a future where their countries offer them the opportunity to realize their dreams, to implement major engineering projects for upgrading the living conditions of our populations.

We hope that the awareness that we have of our responsibility towards the students of our network may be an example for others to follow and that, on the other hand, the networking of our students who come together to organize cultural events may spread and be imitated by many others.

Through our work as teachers, over several decades, we accompany hundreds of thousands of students, engineers, architects and managers, who look to RMEI with confidence and interest. Our young technologists are driven by great enthusiasm and eagerness to do things, to innovate, to dialogue, to listen.

We have to give them the possibility to work here, in our Mediterranean Region. An ambitious goal that cannot be achieved by a handful of willing and interested people. But we can give our contribution to making this dream come true by persevering in our mission because, before being scientists, we are educators.

However, I think that little can be done to ensure a prosperous future for our countries without the enthusiasm and energy that come from our Mediterranean sea.

Today I wish to reaffirm the mission of our network: networking among Engineering schools within which students are encouraged to set up networks and can link up with the labor world and with the institutions of our countries. But how can we pursue this goal?

I would suggest four main strategic lines:

  • Networking through education
  • Networking through students’ cultural events
  • Networking through research programs and projects
  • Networking through the organization of internships with businesses and the institutions.

And we are sowing seeds that will produce bountiful fruits: a new societal engineering that is fuelled by our passion for this job…make possible what seems impossible.

The challenges we will be facing in coming years are related to a number of different areas: energy, water resources, pollution, logistics, Mediterranean marine transport routes, climate change, mining resources, waste, safety and security and resilience of cities and regions. And I am sure that with everyone’s contribution we will be able to deal with them to the best of our possibilities.

Mara LOMBARDI, RMEI President

GAMe’s:history and activities

GAMe is the acronymous of Young Mediterranean Ambassadors. It’s a project belonging to RMEI,  the Network of Engineering and Management Schools.

GAMe association gathers together the young Mediterranean Engineers and Management students.

GAMe is an international student network.

It is the apolitical, laical, non-profitable student section of the RMEI universities .

GAMe is the association of Mediterranean students belonging mainly to engineering schools whose members join on an exclusively voluntary basis.

Aim of GAMe

  • GAMe aims to have engineering students from around the Mediterranean working and communicating together in preparation of an international career.
  • GAMe wants to answer this point by giving students the opportunity to meet each other and to work together.
  • The goal is to make them more familiar with other cultures and other way of thinking and to enrich their own through the experience they gain.

The final aim of GAMe is to reach a close cooperation and a continuous promotion of students initiatives among the Mediterranean Schools

  • educational exchanging,
  • continuity of participation,
  • Interdisciplinarity,
  • Intersectorality,
  • internationality ,
  • promotion of mobility,
  • development of skills and versatility,
  • co-research studies,
  • voluntary social and cultural network,
  • mentoring and trainings activities,

GAMe for education

GAMe aims to promote and develop students’ mobility, thus encouraging universities to develop their mobility programs and an exchange program, connecting people.

MOBILITY and CONNECTIVITY vs INEQUALITIES 2017

As part of the efforts of the EAMC (Engineering Association for Mediterraneen Countries) to promote and strengthen a culture of exchange and partnership on the cultural, academic, economic and social level in the Mediterranean region, a TUNeIT project was launched and to which have joined the schools of architecture and engineers: ENAU, ENSIT and ENIM as well as the Tunisian order of engineers. TUNeIT proposes the construction of a bridge connecting Africa and Europe via Cap Bon, Sicily and the Strait of Messina.

It is also a vector of scientific and cultural exchanges between professionals, academics and students from both shores of the Mediterranean.

In this context, the partners announced above are organizing an ideas competition for the design of an artificial island off El Haouaria Cap Bon Tunisia.

This competition is open to students of architecture schools and engineering students in Civil Engineering, Energy Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Three components are offered within the competition.

Website:  http://www.tuneit.tn/fr/

Goal

Raise awareness among young student engineers, agronomists and architects undergoing training on the issue of climate change in the Mediterranean area.

Description

Develop a long-term internship program abroad. 10 internships on urban pollution issues caused by port traffic

Territorial base

Potentially all major coastal towns that are affected. The cities of Marseille (FR), Sousse (TN), Casablanca (MO), Tangier (MO), Rabat (MO), Jounieh (LB), Civitavecchia (IT), Thessaloniki (GE), Chania (GE) and Barcelona ( ES) are either stakeholders in the existing CLIMed program or have shown interest.

Project's holder

Mediterranean Network of Engineering Schools, association of university establishments specializing in engineering, agronomy, architecture and management. The network currently brings together around a hundred establishments on both shores of the Mediterranean with 17 countries represented.

Les objectifs du RMEI prennent en compte la formation, la recherche, l'innovation et le développement économique dans un contexte de mobilité des personnes et pour le développement durable de la Méditerranée:

1 permettre aux "étudiants-ingénieurs/manageurs/architectes" d’être des citoyens conscients des enjeux sociétaux, économiques et environnementaux afin de situer leur activité quotidienne d’homme et femme vivant dans une Région et leur activité future de manager (industrie ou service) dans le contexte du développement durable et de la territorialité : la mobilité et le travail en partenariat sont les bases de progrès ;

2 identifier grâce à l’expertise des scientifiques membres des institutions du RMEI, les thèmes de recherche qui paraissent prioritaires pour la promotion du développement durable en Méditerranée par l’innovation ; Énergie, eau, transports, sécurité, santé, urbanisme et habitat , déchet, électronique, … sont des enjeux concrets que la compétence des formations aidera à mieux définir et pour lesquels le RMEI contribuera à promouvoir des solutions par l’innovation et en partenariat avec les spécialistes des sciences humaines et sociales ;
